PEER LEADERSHIP URBAN EXPEDITIONS

Five-day Peer Leadership Urban Expeditions are set within the rich cultural, historical, and natural environment of metropolitan Philadelphia. These expeditions are offered to middle and high schools in the Philadelphia metropolitan region during the spring and fall semesters, and they are uniquely designed to engage students with their peers in challenging environments in order to develop leadership and personal skills applicable to everyday life at home and school. Students explore the city, complete community service projects, climb Outward Bound's high ropes course, overnight in a 30' high tree house, and spend quiet reflective "solo time."

One or two educators from each participating school accompany the selected students on their course. Funding subsidies are available to support these educational programs. Public schools pay a nominal admissions fee to participate. Peer Leadership Urban Expeditions run on a pre-set schedule from April through late November.

"The lessons that I have learned [at Outward Bound] are all important to me, but the one that is most important to me is the fact that I can do something that I never could imagine."

- Marc Franklin
